From "Ocean Breeze" and "Island Woman" on the debut album, to radio hits "Love Will Find A Way", "Whatcha Gonna Do", and "Place In The Sun" among others, Pablo Cruise established itself as one of California's great 70's bands. On A&M Records, Pablo Cruise recorded seven LP's and their rockin' Island sound found its way to the national airwaves. In 1973, Dave and musical partners, Corey Lerios on keyboards, and drummer Steve Price, teamed up with bassist and singer, Bud Cockrell, to form the California lifestyle band, Pablo Cruise. In 1966, Dave moved west to California, and began playing clubs and concert halls, and working in music stores. His surfing influences were men like Fred Hemmings and Joey Cabell, Corky Carroll and Mickey Dora. He was listening to anything from the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean, to Aretha and Marvin Gaye. In January of 2018, Keola was appointed Board Chair of Aloha Kuamoʻo ʻĀina, a 501c3 non-profit formed for the protection and preservation of the Kuamoʻo Battlefield and Burial Grounds in Kona, Hawaii.Dave Jenkins Biography "Pablo Cruise": Lead Guitarist, Lead Vocalistĭave Jenkins has had the Islands in his heart since his school days in sunny Florida where he began surfing and playing music in 1964. He is an Award-Winning Author and Artistic Director of The Mohala Hou Foundation, which presents Aloha Music Camp. Keola was also the author of the first written instruction book for the Hawaiian Slack Guitar, published in 1972. Keola established himself early as a leader of the wave of contemporary Hawaiian music when he wrote the classic Honolulu City Lights – which is still one of the absolute all-time best-selling recordings in the history of Hawaiian music. So Keola's talent is in his blood, inherited from over five generations of musical and artistic lineage. The Beamers trace their roots to royal families of the 14th century and have been cultural practitioners through generations. Keola’s mother, Aunty Nona Beamer, continues to be revered as a Hawaiian cultural treasure and his great-grandmother was one of Hawaiʻi’s most illustrious composers, Helen Desha Beamer. His wife Moanalani Beamer joins Keola in performances with her beautiful hula and the exquisite sounds of traditional Hawaiian instruments. Keola was one of the first to use the Hawaiian slack-key technique to create contemporary music at home on jazz or classical stages. He is a Hawaiian legend: singer-songwriter, composer, guitar master, with an impeccable, gorgeous style featured on The Descendants soundtrack and his 17 CDs.
